It’s that time of year again. Time for family gatherings, cozy fires, and delicious food. You are likely already thinking about what dish you are going to bring to the family Thanksgiving gathering or the fun games you want to play with your loved ones after dinner. Another year is drawing to an end and we are preparing for the holidays that are up ahead in the coming months.

As Thanksgiving Day nears, we are reminded to count our blessings and reflect with gratitude on the year that is coming to a close. Does your family have a tradition they do together every year on Thanksgiving? Many people take turns sharing something they are thankful for, say a family prayer, or do something else to express their thankfulness for the things they have. Maybe your family takes time to share Bible verses about thankfulness that will spark conversation around the table.

If you like the idea of sharing a Bible verse around the Thanksgiving table and are looking for Bible verse on thanksgiving we are here to help. The Bible has many verses about gratitude and thanksgiving. Are you looking for a scripture for church, small group, or your family to read at your Thanksgiving meal? If so, then we’ve got a list of 5 scriptures on thanksgiving and gratitude to get you started.

1) Psalm 107:8-9

“Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.”

This passage from Psalm 107 is a great place to start. It is a call to give thanks and reminds the reader of why God is worthy of our gratitude. This verse will cause you to reflect on the unfailing love of God and His compassionate works for mankind.

This verse would be a good conversation starter if you are reading it around a dinner table. Ask each person to think about the ways God satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. Ask them how He has done that in their own lives. After this time of reflection, each person can share how God has filled their lives with good things the past year and give thanks to Him.

2) 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Here’s another good Bible verse to share at Thanksgiving. If you want to dive deeper and begin a discussion with others, ask the group what it means for them to rejoice always and give thanks in all circumstances. This will remind each person of the things they have to be thankful for at Thanksgiving, maybe even in the midst of difficult circumstances.

3) Philippians 4:6-7

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

This scripture about thankfulness from Philippians addresses the anxious heart. It encourages us to go to God in prayer and thanksgiving in every situation. The result of this is all-surpassing peace that will cover your hearts and minds. These verses guide you into action when you feel anxious about anything. The passage instructs us to be thankful and reminds us that we can put our trust in God and He will guard us and take care of us.

4) Colossians 2:6-7

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

Here we have another Bible verse about thankfulness and gratitude that could be used for discussion around the Thanksgiving table or in your Thanksgiving worship services. You could begin with asking everyone to think about what it means to be rooted and built up in Christ. After the group considers this, move the conversation to how being rooted in Christ will cause you to overflow with thankfulness. If you’re in a setting where people can share, this will lead everyone to share the things they are thankful for and how their faith has been strengthened this past year.

5) Psalm 95: 1-7

“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture.”

The final verse on thanksgiving and gratitude we have is from Psalm 95. This Psalm is a great passage on thankfulness to open a worship gathering with and will set each person’s heart on the greatness of God. Reminding others of the greatness of God is a good way to set their hearts on thankfulness. This passage stirs the heart to worship and reminds us of the majesty and holiness of God. It is a call to worship and a call to thankfulness.

These 5 scriptures on Thankfulness and Gratitude are just a few of the many great verses on thanksgiving in the Bible. Thanksgiving is a time to gather with your loved ones, to reflect on the year that has gone by, and to set your hearts on the goodness of God and give thanks to Him. We hope and pray that this year has been filled with the good blessings of God and that you are able to be reminded of the things you are thankful for as you read these scriptures.
